Gateway to Community Services – South East Tasmania

Gain the confidence to begin your career in the Community Services sector.

Who is this for?

• People that are keen to get a job helping others
• Those able to communicate in English, have some writing ability and able to read basic instructions
• Those able to commit 2 days per week for twelve weeks

What is Included

• 3 core units from CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support
• First Aid Certificate – HLTAID011 Provide First Aid
• Support to get a Police Check & Working With Vulnerable People registration
• Digital and literacy skills
• Resumes, cover letters and practice applying for jobs
• Overview of job opportunities, employer expectations, report writing, self-care, an introduction to the National Standards and person centered practices
• NDIS Worker orientation modules – Quality, safety and you
• NDIS Worker training modules – optional for those interested in Disability Support
• Pathway support and work experience placement organised by Work & Training with local employers

How Will I Learn?

This course is provided face-to-face in a relaxed environment by a qualified trainer with experience working and delivering training within the Community Services sector. Work & Training provide all learning & digital resources, plus free tea and coffee.

Eligibility

This course is funded through the Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) Program. To be eligible, you need to:

  • be aged 15 and over and have left school
  • be either an Australian citizen, or
  • a permanent visa holder, or
  • on a provisional or temporary visa with working rights and eligible for the Adult Migrant English Program, or
  • a Pacific Australian Labour Mobility visa holder.

Unit Summary

Participants are able to complete the following selected core units from CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support

  • CHCCOM005 Communicate and work in health or community services
  • HLTWHS002 Follow safe work practices for direct client care
  • HLTAID011 Provide First Aid

Selected units from FSK10219 Certificate I in Skills for Vocational Pathways

  • FSKLRG003 Use short and simple strategies for career planning
  • FSKLRG007 Use strategies to identify job opportunities


Participants will receive a statement of attainment for units of competence that are successfully completed.
