Key Apprenticeship Program: New Funding Available

News

Building the Workforce of the Future

The Key Apprenticeship Program (KAP) is a vital government initiative aimed at supporting and growing the skilled workforce in two critical sectors: clean energy and housing construction. By offering financial assistance of up to $10,000 to apprentices, KAP helps them develop the expertise needed for the jobs of tomorrow. The program’s goal is to create a strong pipeline of skilled workers, ensuring that Australia meets its national infrastructure goals both now and in the future.

Program Streams

The KAP consists of two streams:

  1. New Energy Apprenticeship (NEA) Stream
  2. Housing Construction Apprenticeship (HCA) Stream
New Energy Apprenticeship (NEA) Stream

The NEA stream is designed to attract and retain apprentices in the clean energy sector. It offers direct financial support to those starting or restarting their journey in clean energy occupations. This stream supports activities such as:

  • Designing, developing, constructing, and operating renewable energy infrastructure.
  • Reducing and managing energy use.
  • Installing and maintaining clean energy technology.
Housing Construction Apprenticeship (HCA) Stream

The HCA stream focuses on expanding the housing construction workforce. It supports apprentices training for roles in building, repairing, and remodeling structures intended to be fixed dwellings, including:

  • Houses
  • Apartments
  • Aged Care facilities

Financial Support for Apprentices

Eligible apprentices can claim financial assistance as follows:

  • Full-time Apprentices: Up to $10,000, with payments of $2,000 at 6, 12, 24, and 36 months, and upon completion.
  • Part-time Apprentices: Up to $5,000, with payments of $1,000 at 6, 12, 24, and 36 months, and upon completion.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the Key Apprenticeship Program, the apprentice must:

  • Meet all primary eligibility requirements.
  • Commence or recommence your apprenticeship on or after 1 July 2025.
  • Be enrolled in a qualification at the Certificate III, Certificate IV, Diploma, or Advanced Diploma level listed on the Australian Apprenticeship Priority List and identified as a new energy or housing construction qualification.
