Faith Chapman was introduced to the idea of a business traineeship when it was offered as a Vocational Education and Training (VET) subject during her final years at school. Like most of us, she had no idea at that stage what she wanted to do and the VET course, delivered by Work & Training (part of the IntoWork Group), was a way to explore a range of different workplace skills.
“I just fell in love with it. I thought it was a great way to learn a lot. A trainer from Work & Training came into the workplace, and she was incredibly supportive and lovely. I found it to be a really effective way to learn,” Faith said.

Now 20-years-old, Faith is now close to finishing her Cert IV in Business through the Work & Training program after finishing her Cert III course a year earlier than expected. As part of her traineeship, she works in Launceston General Hospital’s Clifford Craig Foundation main office, a charity that raises funds for medical research, equipment, resources and training.
Faith says the balance of studying and working is a great way for her to experience different facets of the workplace.
“It’s been great to work with the whole team and assist everyone with all their different roles. It’s given me a real taste for what I want to do,” Faith said.
“I knew I wanted to work in an office, something in business, but I didn’t know specifically. I thought before I got any further education, it was important to know what I wanted to do for a career.”
Clifford Craig Foundation CEO, Vanessa Cahoon, has no doubt Faith is destined for a bright future. She can see how well-supported Faith has been throughout her training and what an incredible asset she’s been for the Clifford Craig team.
“I think it works really well in this workplace particularly, because it’s so diverse. Faith’s been able to complete her modules but also learn a range of different skills. A number of our staff members have been here for over a decade, so I think that’s been a wonderful opportunity for Faith. To be around people that have got some great experience and receive some mentoring as well,” Vanessa said.
Kylie Peryk is Apprentice & Employment Manager at Work & Training. She said business traineeships like Faith’s are ideal for young people exploring their options. “It’s so rewarding when a placement like Faith’s is beneficial for everyone involved. We can see that not only is Faith getting invaluable real-world experience but she’s clearly a great fit for the Clifford Craig team. That’s one of the key goals of the program,” Kylie said.
Both Vanessa and Faith are confident that Faith will be offered ongoing employment at Clifford Craig after she completes her traineeship. She also knows she’ll be supported to explore new opportunities to help build her career. Faith believes the pathway she’s taken through Work & Training’s course is one well-suited to young people who want to learn through hands-on experience.
“I can see what I do day to day in my work are the things that I’m learning about, and they’re very applicable. I think if you learn best while you’re doing things and working, then a traineeship is definitely the best way to go.”

With her commitment, growth and contribution in the workplace being recognised by those around her, Faith has since been presented with the 2025 Work & Training and Learning Partners Trainee of the Year Award.
The award reflects Faith’s dedication to her training, the positive impact she has made at the Clifford Craig Foundation, and the way she has embraced learning through real‑world experience — a strong example of what traineeships can offer young people exploring career pathways.
